Macabacus and Microsoft (for the most part) no longer support Internet Explorer 10 and prior versions. Please consider upgrading your browser.
Download the installer named
Macabacus20XX.exe from the downloads page. Verify that the version downloaded corresponds to the version of Office installed on your computer.
For the most part, Macabacus installs just like any other Windows software. Request IT support if you do not have the necessary privileges to install Macabacus on your computer.
If an administrator performs an "over-the-shoulder" installation for you, you may need to log out of Windows and log back in for the installation to finish.
The installer prompts you to download and install any of the following Microsoft components (i.e., prerequisites) required by Macabacus that are missing on your system. If the installer is unable to download or install a prerequisite for any reason, click the applicable link below to download the prerequisite directly from Microsoft and install it before attempting to install Macabacus again.
When you install Macabacus, the registry keys that instruct Office applications to load Macabacus add-ins upon start-up are created under your HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive at:
If you log out of the Citrix "box" and then log in as another user, Macabacus should still be installed. However, the necessary registry keys will likely be missing from that user's HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive, and Macabacus add-ins will not load for that user. Therefore, when deploying Macabacus in a terminal server environment, ensure that Macabacus is installed in the logon script, or otherwise ensure that the necessary registry keys are present in the user's HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive.
If you have not previously used Macabacus, Macabacus will prompt you for an email address upon starting Excel, PowerPoint, or Word. Enter either (a) the email address of an authorized user to activate Macabacus, if you have already purchased a subscription, or (b) the email address you expect to use for managing your Macabacus subscription if you later decide to purchase Macabacus, to initiate your free trial.
You can activate Macabacus at any time using these instructions. If you are a corporate user and your email address is not recognized when you try to activate, ask your Macabacus account administrator to configure your access.
Uninstall Macabacus via the Control Panel just as you would any other Windows software. Uninstalling does not remove the folder
C:\Users\%USER NAME%\AppData\Roaming\Macabacus and certain registry entries, so remove those items manually, if desired.
If you require the
.msi file packaged in the
.exe installer, perhaps for silent installs, follow these instructions:
%temp%in the address bar and hit Enter.
Macabacus 20XX.msifile you are looking for.
.msifile to a safe location before closing the installer dialog.
.msiwill be immediately deleted from the Temp folder.
There are also other methods to extract the
.msi, including third party software and Windows' command line prompt.
Macabacus Lite is a VBA add-in, so no actual installation—in the traditional sense—is required. Therefore, Macabacus Lite can be "installed" even where corporate IT protocols restrict software installation.
Complete this form to receive an email with the Macabacus Lite download links. The downloaded file will be named
MacabacusLite.xlam. If you do not receive the email within a few minutes, check your spam filter and firewall settings. If you are still unable to receive email sent from email@example.com, use another email address.
If your browser gives you the choice to open or save the downloaded add-in, choose to save it.
Move the downloaded add-in to following recommended folder:
The exact path may differ on your computer. Replace %USER NAME% with your own, of course. If the AppData folder is hidden, follow these instructions to display it.
Since a July 2016 Office security update, you must "unblock" VBA add-ins. To unblock Macabacus Lite, right-click
MacabacusLite.xlam in Windows Explorer, click Properties in the context menu, and click the Unblock button. If you do not unblock Macabacus Lite, it may not load automatically when starting Excel.
Load Macabacus Lite from Excel's Add-ins dialog (
Alt>T>I) shown to the right. If Macabacus Lite is not listed, click the Browse button to find
MacabacusLite.xlam on your computer. If Macabacus Lite was previously installed, Excel may prompt you to replace the add-in—click Yes. Finally, check the box next to Macabacus Lite and click the OK button.
Uncheck the Macabacus Lite box in Excel's Add-ins dialog (if applicable) and remove the add-in from the XLSTART folder (or whereever it resides). See these Microsoft instructions if more detail is required.
